When your Android in standby mode, it will lock the screen so you can't use it until you lock on the screen. If you want to disable lock screen, you can do it with some application which you can get from the market.
Just search on the Android Market using "no lock" keyword. You'll see some applications that you can use to disable the android lock screen.
